The Morehouse Council on Aging (MCOA), founded in 1976, is a nonprofit based in Morehouse Parish dedicated to helping adults 60 and older remain independent, safe, and supported in their homes and communities. We manage federal, state, and local funds, connect seniors with critical services, and are guided by a volunteer board representing diverse community voices.
The Morehouse Council on Aging, Inc., is a non-profit corporation under Louisiana State Statute (LA R.S. 46:1601 and 46:931) and is tax exempt per the IRS code 501 (c) (3). MCoA, Inc. is the designated Area Agency on Aging for Morehouse Parish. MCoA is responsible for planning a comprehensive and coordinated variety of services that are available to persons age 60 and older in Morehouse Parish.
The mission of the Mirehouse Council on Aging is to develop an organizational design for service provision with effective procedures for advocating, planning with relevant parish agencies; facilitating and attempting to secure services to heighten awareness of the public in Morehouse Parish with particular interest to those persons of various age groups in greatest economic and or social need.
To ensure the availability and accessibility of services for various age groups by providing information to the community of available services, gaps in services, and needs as identified by the community in an efficient, and effective manner.
Our Board of Directors is made up of volunteers from all walks of life. We have retired professionals from industry, education, medicine, local business, law enforcement, economic development, and religious institutions. They are a mixture of young and older volunteers who represent a wide variety of our community population. Board members serve a three year term for no more than two consecutive terms. Board members are selected from the police jury districts of Morehouse Parish at the Council’s annual meeting.
The responsibility of the Board is to advise the staff on trends, strategies, and personal experience in planning for the best services that can be made available to our seniors in Morehouse Parish. If you are interested in serving on the MOAC Boardlet us know. We will send you some information.
